I just discovered that your program even when one links outside document to the project it would still copy it to the database. It poses a big problem. Different copies are different versions of the same document - like this I cannot work in peace, I have to pay attention which document is actually opened... I might loose changes...

Would it be possible to link outside document - not copying it - and let links do the job? I would prefer to have one actual copy of the text than many different...

  Thank you for your answer! I read this article before and it works to certain point. The problem starts if I do anything further with the link, than the original is automatically imported... :-(

  I want to use Pagico as a task keeping program with contacts, files and notes for the documents which I work with few days a week for a final date when the document changes finally from many versions of the draft to final print. When I tried to do it - each time linking the link to contact, project or the task was ending in converting external document to copied one...

  Maybe I am doing something wrong. Please advise.

  May I know what "further action" did you do before the original file is imported? The only file import action is when you drop them into Pagico. And if you pressed and held the Option key when dropping the files, they will be imported as aliases and will (should) remain so. And external items will show up as "External Resource" in the description on the file object in Pagico.

  "further action" means - I want to link the external source document to particular task - it causes copying of the linked file instead of linking... 

  I might be doing something not planed for this version, but as everything can be linked... I tried.

  I can't see the link in the task in the calendar display... it shows in the project as the stored file for all tasks of the project...

  Hi there,

  Understood. Try these steps:

  1) Press & hold the Option key and import the file(s) you wanted. By doing so, the files will be imported as aliases (links).

  2) Right-click on a desired task, and choose "Link with...". In the popup, search for the desired file, and select it from the "Other" tab.

  3) Hit "Confirm" to create the link.

  Hi - Dragging and dropping files / emails is inconsistent. Sometimes it doesn't show up, but then if I go out of the project and come back in, Pagico will have imported several copies of the same file - very annoying. Also - it doesn't always link them with a specific task, sometimes it will just add it to the project and then I have to link manually - which is a pain - especially because you can't just drag and drop files in the project onto a task.

  I want to do the same thing - link to a local file, not copy it. I've tried what you suggested above but it doesn't work - i'm in Windows 10, & don't have an 'option' button. So I tried it with both the Alt key & the Win key. Neither worked. What am I doing wrong?

  Christine,

  Pressing & holding the Alt key should perform the Link action instead of the Copy action. Have you tried pressing & holding the Shift key and see if that makes a difference?

  @Mlsptonline,

  To link a task to a file already in the project, please try using the "Link to" feature which is available in the right-click menu. Simply right-click an existing task, choose "Link to" from the menu, then type a few letters to search for the target file, and hit "ENTER" to make the link.

  The above will allow me to link to a "Project" but not a file in that project.  Please advise.

  I have the same problem. Even linking to file creates something like a copy of file, not a link. If I make changes to a linked file opened by native application or launched from file manager, then saved - after opening the link on Pagico did not show any changes. That's confusing and makes no sense to use linking to files at all becauseI need to be sure I works on single file and on it's last version. How can I solve this issue?

  @Vaidas Guogis,

  That's very strange! What OS are you on? If you're on a Mac, pressing & holding the Option key while dropping the file should import the file as an alias, not an actual copy of it. Please kindly let me know if this is the case on your end.

  @CJC,

  You should certainly be able to link to anything (both projects and any other objects such as files or lists). To do so, please type in the search field of the Link To panel to filter and find the target object, then make the link.

  I'm on Windows 10. It makes copy when drag files with Ctrl key and should make a link if Alt is pressed during drag. But unfortunately it also makes a copy, not a link.

  This is test file.

  Link opened a copy, not original file.

  Here I wrote 2nd line.

  An original file was not changed.

  Please let me know what further tests I can make for you to catch this issue?
