Timer Function Badly Needed

So I've had a conversation with Ryo about this.  He's awesome, quick frankly I think he's a genius - but I should probably document this for all.  So one of the Pagico slogans is "Upgrade Your Productivity"  and on the website the first thing written in the content is "Be Productive & Stay Organized."

As I explained Merriam Webster dictionary defines Productivity as “the rate at which goods are produced or work is completed”  it also defines Rate as “ the speed at which something happens over a particular period of time.”  I’ve seen so many claims that people’s productivity increased with Pagico…but the problem is, if there’s no timer, then  these people have no way to substantiate their claim or measure their productivity.  If they say their productivity increased but they weren’t even measuring their productivity then the claim isn't true.  I don’t think people can make any of those claims without a timer.  I believe a timer is a central element to a tool used to enhance productivity.  Timer by Task...Timer by Project...  Badly needed :).  Save us from ourselves Ryo.

  I personally don't agree that a timer is needed. I think its something few people would use.

  Kevin - you felt it necessary to make that comment - for what reason exactly?  

  Again...making the claim to enhance productivity - by definition means that one's speed is being increased.  I didn't create the definition of productivity...nor did I create Pagico's marketing strategy that claims to enhance productivity.  The only thing I know is that Pagico claims to enhance user productivity but doesn't have a way to measure it.  I use software similar to Pagico that I pay monthly subscription fees for...and I know many others who use it as well (Jetpack Workflow) for use in professional services firms.  Those of us who charge by the hour for services would use the timer (accountants, lawyers, consultants).  The only reason I haven't dropped that subscription is because, even though I use Pagico, it doesn't have a timer function...so I can't track time by task or project.  Not having a timer and claiming to enhance productivity is an oxymoron, as the statement contradicts itself.  Please reference the original comment - as it stands on its own.

  So please focus on the features that you think are important...rather than working this hard to "c0ck-bl0ck" the features that you personally think, in all of your wisdom, that no one else needs...simply because you or your business doesn't use them.  I guess now I need to be this childish and follow your suggestions so that I can make silly comments about them also.

  I understand your use case and I apologize you think I was "c0ck-bl0ck"ing you. I use Pagico, software and it is an important piece of software to me. I am also a software engineer and I understand how feature creep can in the long run make a product much worse, not better. I believe that it's important for software to keep scope, and focus on its core functionality. This is one of those features that I believe should not be considered to be core to the Pagico experience. If the developers disagree that's fine. I worry that focusing on features like this will mean the developers will drop the ball on other important features / bug fixes. There are currently many bugs in the software that need to be addressed and developer time I'm sure is at a premium.

  I have to agree with the "No Timer Needed" crowd --  I use a timer and it's great for making sure I take breaks and gives me an accurate measure of progress. And I do not feel that Pagico needs one, at least the way I use Pagico. See, I open Pagico first thing in the AM to map out what I'm going to do, then I open up my Timer app, set up or check the categories it has so they match. I close Pagico and start the timer and get to work. Then in the Afternoon, I plot my progress and get back to work. Then at the end of my workday, I open up Pagico, mark things as done or readjust things if needed. Then on the next day: rinse, lather, repeat.

  This method works well for me, and since the timer app does track the time spent on tasks and I can mark them as done and that also is recorded. Since I started using pagico (in conjunction with Be Productive Pro <-- my timer app of choice), my productivity has increased mostly due to not fidgeting around and just getting to work. And having a plan allows me to, as situations require, to do some things out of the sequence I've planned. 

  My problem is that I feel that most "all in one" apps do all the things they say, adequately and little more. I do a lot of graphics, 3D work and video composting, and often am switching between multiple apps that are running at the same time. And having an extra app going is just a distraction. However, my timer app sits on my menu bar, takes up little system resources and does just one thing: time a task. 

  [sidebar: Over the past few years graphics apps I use have gone ga-ga over adding Animation. And usually it feels that the animation features were just tacked on and not really thought out. The animation feature set is crude and really makes animation harder than in other dedicated animation apps. That's where I'm coming from in regards to this timer feature.]

  I feel that if notes17 wants to do a stand-alone timer that scoops up data (like tasks, etc) and then updates the database in the background, that'll be a great app, one that I'll be interested in buying as a stand-alone (but working in conjunction with) Pagico. But right now, I have a system that works for me and with the intended improvements in the upcoming update, I don't see how much adding a time within the app would add much value to the user. Honestly, if timing is important to a person, there are a lot of timers out there that do that one thing so very well. Just like Pagico does project planning, organizing and completion so very well.

  I'd use the timer! I'm currently on the edge of buying Pagico, and a timer would push me over . . .

  I know my response is a bit late on this topic, but I was just thinking a timer function may be great to have considering the number of projects I tend to juggle at once. The question is how obtrusive will it be...which has me sort of straddling the fence. I am not sure if I want something that is hard coded into the product to force the time to be captured when there could have been a hiccup along the way in that time block (me or some other force).  Either way, i do think I would try it out if it is provided.

  From me also a +1 for a timer. I often have to switch through different tasks per hour and it would give good insights for the performance and als for invoicing. I actually use an extra app for this, where i have to add all the projects and subtasks again...
